Winners of garden competition announced

The winners of the 2009 Ekurhuleni Garden Competition have been announced.

 

 

All the winners in the Ekurhuleni Garden Competition were announced at a ceremony on Saturday, March 13, 2010. The winner of the best garden in Ekurhuleni, as well as the best large garden, was C Venter of Westdene, Benoni. The runners-up for the best large garden were Yvonne Fouries of Beyers Park, Boksburg and Keith and Lettie Johnston of Edleen, Kempton Park.

The winner of the best medium garden was Poppie van Niekerk of Benoni. The runners-up were Sharon Lendrum- Frittelli of Hurlyvale, Edenvale; Sharon Freeman of Edenglen Ext 18, Edenvale and Stewart McFarlane of Lakefield, Benoni.

The winner of the best small garden was Sharon and Alan Munn of Brentwood Park, Benoni. The runners-up for the best small gardens were Peter Qobo of Kwa-Thema, Lorna Prinsloo of Brakpan and Louis Miller of Dayanglen, Boksburg.

The winner of the best school garden in Ekurhuleni was Laerskool Dalview in Brakpan. The runners-up were School of Achievement in Elspark, Germiston and Southern African Bible College in Benoni.

The best business garden was awarded to Kemiri Kwekery in Benoni North. Runners-up in this category were the Lake Restaurant in Brakpan, Era Brink Property Group in Brakpan and Themas Investments in Brakpan.

The best food garden went to Amcare in Alberton. Runners-up were Joseph Motseki and Nonina Portia Di Phoko, in Vosloorus and Sonqoba Vegetable Food Garden in Katlehong.

The best pavement garden was awarded to Lorna Prinsloo of Kenleaf Ext 12, Brakpan. The runners-up were Keith & Lettie Johnston of Edleen, Kempton Park and Shane Brown of Helderwyk, Brakpan.

Special prizes were awarded to A.T. Erasmus of Casseldale, Springs for the most colourful garden; Christa Bench of Rynfield, Benoni for the most environmentally friendly garden; C. Venter of Westdene, Benoni for the most natural water feature; Etienne Els of Edleen, Kempton Park for the most water wise garden; Joseph Motseki and Nonina Portia Di Phoko of Vosloorus for the best communal garden; Xolani Patrick Radebe of Daveyton for the most innovative garden; Siphiwe Gordon Msibi of Daveyton for the most promising garden.
